Notes from the Teacher: Jr. Kindergarten has now worked their way through letters A-Z. We now begin learning about short & long vowel sounds. This week is vowel (a). When the step up books go home, please review the vowel sound of the week and return the step up book, so they can continue with the next vowel. There will be 3 books made for each vowel sound. All of these books will be great for a summer read together. Also, I want to thank you all for coming to The Beauty and the Beast show. What a treat that was for the children to see a live performance and great message on kindness!
Short and long vowel (a) books: “When You’re Happy & You Know It, Clap Your Hands,” “What Will Fat Cat Sit On?” “Edna Dances,” “Baker, Baker Cookie Maker” and “Emma Kate.”
Math: Trace numbers 0-10, trace by 10’s to 100 and cut and paste a centipede. (cente = 100, pede = feet), labeling its body parts by 10’s. If time permits, color and trace numbers inside an addition booklet.
Small motor: The children will begin to create vowel booklets, color, cut and staple them. Trace vowel (a) in short and long words, and use both hands to turn pages as they read together. Construct a happy face and clapping hands for the story “When You’re Happy & You Know It, Clap Your Hands,”
Large motor: Run and play outside, using sand and water tables. Take turns riding the tricycles and big wheel. Play circle games and run and skip around the large playground. Introduce movements to “The Ants go Marching On” and “Skip to My Lou.”
God’s Word: “Pentecost” found in Acts 2; is the beginning of the church of Christ through the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Memory verse: “Friends, let love one another, for love comes from God.” 1 John 4:7
Science: We begin a new unit on insects; knowing the parts of insects, what they eat and do, how they help us, compare other creepy crawly critters to insects and try to make and observe an ant farm.
Spanish: Will be held in Jr. K. with Ms. Rosa, Monday at 8:45 to 9:20 a.m.
Music: 10:30- 11:00 a.m. Ms. Orbison will teach music on Tuesday and Thursday mornings with Jr.K and Kindergarten.
Important dates and information will be going home for next year’s school year. Any questions see Mrs. Marshall or Mrs. Larson thank you.
