Thank you.
Letter (Qq) books read: Read Along “Dr. Seuss ABC,” Make our own classroom “letter Q” book using funny animal magazine photos to foster individual responses. Read through our dots books and letter Q book together and enjoy the stories, “The Big Road Race” and “The Tortoise and the Hare.” (quick does not always win)
Math: We will work on number recognition, number sequencing and patterns “what comes next,” using 4 leaf clovers. For fun, use balloons with numbers on them to have the children find and sort balloons by colors and numbers. Small motor: The children will trace letter (Qq), color, cut and glue letter (Q) word pictures and make their own letter Q flip books. As time permits, make a classroom paper quilt and lace up the edges with yarn.
Large motor: Run and play outside, using sand and water tables. Take turns riding the tricycles and big wheel and introduce stretching and jog outside on the big playground for Friday’s Jogathon. On Thursday, the children will play relay races with the whole school.
God’s Word: We will finish up “A Woman Anoints Jesus’ Feet”. Last week we touched on how Jesus describes the Kingdom of God (Matthew 13), how we are changed from within by God’s power; the “parable of bread.” Hence, the woman was change by God’s forgiveness.*This week, we will read about how Jesus calmed the storm in Matthew 8 and how he walked on water to help his friends (Matthew 14). For fun, will use corn starch to “walk” our fingers across a liquid goop.
Science: We began a unit on “Plants” last week. The Kindergarteners made a diagram of a flower and labeled it, sorted seeds in fruit and illustrated what they saw. This week they will experiment with “what soil is best for seed growth” and observe planted seeds in light and not in light, and continue watering and observing their planted seeds of wild flowers and watermelon seeds. *Flowers are beginning to come up.
