Notes from Teacher: We will begin October’s Dog Gone Good Readers award board this week. Fall into Reading awards go out this week for the month of September. Wednesday’s chapel tithing is going towards children who need school supplies in a foreign country. If you would like to send money for this cause there are envelopes in my room for tithing. In the mean time, I have been giving the children in my class coins to give. Please sign up for parent teacher conferences. It will be posted on the door.
Books: Make Way for Ducklings, Discovering Electricity, Duck for President, Dancing Teepees will be read for Letter D this week.
Science: Assessing children on parts of a plant and what a plant needs to grow. We will begin our social studies unit 1, Myself and Others. Math: introducing number 4, recognizing 0-3, and matching numbers to number of dots and number to word. Our shape of the week is triangle, noting three equal sides.
Letter of the week is “D.” We will cut and paste D on a paper duck, along with pictures that begin with D. Air stroke letter D with clothespin, then trace D and write D. We are also working on name recognition through scrabble and printing their name on paper.
Large/motor: Outdoor play and circle games with music.
Small motor activities: Cutting and gluing through art, painting and printing. Drawing in the lines and creating supportive pictures. Songs: God is So Good. What a Name We Have in Jesus. Fun with music: circle games and Duck, Duck Goose. Spanish: with Rosa they are learning colors and numbers in Spanish.
God’s Word: Moses Leads God’s People: “God Cares for You” 1Peter 5:7.

Thank You: To the parents that were able to come on our field trip to the Long Beach Aquarium. The children loved seeing all God’s sea creatures. A big thanks to parents that helped put on the Jr. K snack for the whole school and paying the 4 dollars. This snack fundraiser will help buy a tricycle for our class. Last Friday was a busy day and you all made it possible.

We had a wonderful time at the Aquarium of the Pacific. The highlight was the sea lion tank. Two of the sea lions kept swimming by the window and placing their noses against the galss. I had a hard time convincing the students to move to the next exhibit. I would like to thank Dele's mother, Staci, for chaperoning.
Picture day is this Friday. This is a free dress day; however, if students change out of picture clothes, they will need to wear the school uniform.

Newsletters, projects, special events, and emails to faculty are all available. We will be eliminating the paper newsletter soon. Emails will be checked and responded to within 48 hours. Notes to teachers via letters or in the planners are still a great option though.
Wed., Oct. 1, will be our field trip to Riley's Farm for the California Gold Mining Adventure. Please be at school by 7:30. We will leave promptly at 7:45am sharp!! Please pack a sack lunch, wear red logo shirt and jeans or jean shorts. Return time is approximately 4:00pm, depending upon traffic.
Signature Fundraiser continues. Profits for grades 4 though 6 will be used to offset the outdoor education trip. Last Day for sales is September 29. Bring your orders to your teacher.
Friday Folders. Please remove the graded papers from this folder every Friday. Please return the folder to school on Monday. Some students are not remembering this.
Picture Day. Friday Oct. 3. Students may dress in nice clothes, not school uniform, if the desire. If students change out of picture clothes, they will need to wear school uniform.

Election Project Due Nov. 3
Choice of projects Due Oct. 3
Students will learn about the upcoming election through their choice of projects listed below. Projects must be typed using the student's own words. Pictures used for displays may be obtained from the internet, books, campaign flyers, newspapers, etc. Materials to use include: poster board, construction paper, trifold display board, folder, markers, colored pencils, political stickers or buttons, etc. Be creative!!
Grading will be based on: creativity, neatness, meeting due dates, quality of information, use of sources/resources, and oral presentation of one project of student's choice.
Grade 3 choose 3 projects
Grade 4 choose 4 projects
Grade 5 choose 5 projects
Grade 6 choose 6 projects
Each student may choose one additional project for extra credit.
1. Decorate an election folder.
2. Make a poster showing the jobs done by the President or the Vice President.
3. Explain the qualifications that must be met to run for President.
4. Research the Republican and Democratic parties. List each party's Presidents.
5. Research any third parties, their candidates, and their platforms.
6. Visit a campaign office. Interview the workers and find out why they are committed to their candidate.
7. Secret Service personnel guard the President, the Vice President, the candidates, and their families 24 hours a day; find out how these people are chosen, trained, and what their job duties include.
8. Research one U. S. President before 1900 and one since 1900. Compare and contrast the terms of the two men.
9. Our Presidents have all been men. Explain why you think this is so and whether you think a woman could or should be elected.
10. If you could vote, which candidate would you choose? Be sure to include the reasons for your decision.
11. Make a collage or bumper sticker encouraging people to vote.
12. Make up a crossword puzzle using election terms and names.
13. Explain how the Electoral College works and explain its pros and cons.
14. We always hope "the best man wins", but television can have an effect on this. Explain how the media can influence voters.
15. Make a display board of five political cartoons. Explain what they mean.
16. Make a list of unusual facts about 10 Presidents.
17. Find out how another country picks its leaders. Compare their system with ours.
18. It's very important for a country to have good leaders. Make a list of the qualities you think a President should have and explain why.
19. Write a letter to a candidate giving suggestions on how to win the election.
20. Would you be interested in a political career as an adult? Why? What would you do?

Notes from Teacher: This Friday will be our field trip to the Long Beach Aquarium, a great time to see God’s creation. When we come back Friday, we have Jr.-K snack at 2:45. Please bring $15 in with your child’s permission slip for the field trip and $4 for Friday’s snack. One of the four dollars will be used for your child to have snack.
Books: Johnny Apple Seed and Animals on the Job for letter A. The True Story of CORKY the Blind Seal, caring for God’s creatures.
Science: Reviewing what a plant needs to grow and how flowers and bees help with fruit. Sequencing booklets will be made in class. There will be continued watering of seeds/plants in the week. Math: Identifying numbers through song and book. We will be using number of dots to create a picture for #3 and trace #3. We will also play ocean bingo, using clothes pins to pinch counters.
Letter of the week is “A.” We will cut and paste A on a paper apple, along with pictures that begin with A. Air stroke letter A with clothespin, then trace A and write A. We are also working on name recognition through scrabble and printing their name on paper.
Large/motor: Outdoor play and circle games with music. Small motor activities: Cutting and gluing through art, painting and printing. Songs: 123 Jesus Loves me song to help identify numbers. Fun with music: musical chairs and pass the ring game. Spanish: with Rosa they are learning colors and numbers in Spanish.
God’s Word: Joseph & His Brothers story will be read from Genesis. How God turns hardship into a blessing for all. Word: “Forgive as the Lord forgave you,” Col. 3:13.

Notes from Teacher: On Friday afternoons at 2:45 the whole school can buy a snack run by a class.. Your child will need to bring a dollar if you want your child to participate. Also, at nap time, your child can bring a stuffed animal. It must stay in back pack when nap is over.
Books read: Flannel board story: There was an Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly, and other books that begin with “O.” (Followed by Octopus craft) *finishing art of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Dramatic Play Wardrobe: We still need boy items (capes, hats, vests). Thanks.
Science: Sorting seeds (most and least) on a graph and taking a close look at parts of a plant, taking turns with a magnifying glass. Make a collage diagram of a flower and all its parts. More seed planting later in the week.
Math: Identifying numbers 0, 1, 2 and matching amounts, sorting animals, and sequencing flannel story.
Letters & numbers: Letter of the week is “O.” We will make oatmeal for fun this week and try OlivesJ
Large/motor: Outdoor play and circle games with music.
Small motor activities: Motion letters and strokes on table top using shaving cream for Letter C&O and #1. There will be cutting and gluing, and sorting in the mornings.
Songs: ABC/123 Jesus Loves me songs to help identify letters and numbers. Fun with music; Freeze Dance, using scarves, Pass the Ball to music, and go opposite direction.
God’s Word: Creation story, day 5, 6 and 7; continued craft, and chapel on Wednesday.

Notes from Teacher: The school BBQ went well and it was very nice to see everybody from class. Please bring in a leaf and a fruit with seeds for science. Continue reading at home with your child for recognition in class.
Books: Three Billy Goats Gruff, The Gingerbread Man, and Goldilocks and The Three Bears. These were selected for Letter G and number three.
Dramatic Play Wardrobe: We still need boy items (capes, hats, vests). Thanks. They sure enjoy playing house, dress up and creating farm and train scenes.
Science: Caring for our planted seeds, carrots and radishes, learning about trees, sorting leaves and seeing seeds inside fruit and drawing what you see on paper. Book: How a Flower becomes a Fruit.
Math: Identifying numbers 0, 1, 2, 3 and counting with beans and tracing numbers. Using number of dots to create a picture. We are continuing to compare the oval to a circle.
Letters & numbers: Letter of the week is “G.” We will make gingerbread cookies and trace letter G. Using 3 dots to decorate their own gingerbread character, noting one head, two hands, feet, and eyes.
Large/motor: Outdoor play and circle games with music. Small motor activities: Motion letters and strokes using wipe off board and chalk board. There will be cutting and gluing, and sorting beans by number.
Songs: ABC/123 Jesus Loves me songs to help identify letters and numbers. Fun with music; Freeze Dance, using scarves, Pass the Ball to music, and go opposite direction. Also, Jack Be Nimble, Jack Be Quick, taking turns jumping to music.
God’s Word: The story of Adam and Eve and how God’s Love is always there to restore us.
Upcoming School Events: We have begun Spanish on Monday mornings 8:45 to 9:30 with Ms. Rosa and Music in the afternoons on Monday and Wednesday at 2:15.
