GRADES 3-6 NEWSLETTER
STANDARDIZED TESTING: Testing will be April 20-24. Please make sure your child has plenty of rest, nutritious snacks, and is not tardy during this week. Your child also needs to have several sharpened #2 pencils for use each day. Make up testing will take place April 27-30.
OUTDOOR EDUCATION: Grades 3-6 will be taking their trip to Arrowhead on May 13-15. All students are expected to participate, unless we receive an explanation in writing as to why a child may not be attending. This trip will be a great educational and fun experience for your child.

Notes from Teacher: I hope you had a great Easter with family and friends. We begin this week with a new student. We can’t wait to meet her. Our class will now have 4 boys and 4 girls.
Short vowel will be (e). We will write the beginning letter for words that start with short e and color and cut 3 letter word pictures for short e. Itsy Bitsy Books will be for alphabet letters D & E.
Books read: “Henny Penny,” “The Little Red Hen,” “Best Wishes Ed” and “The Hundred Dresses” will be read at nap time.
Math: Counting lemons and seeds, and measuring sugar and water as they make lemonade this week. Also, Leap Frog Bingo for colors and shapes will be played.
Large motor: Outdoor play on tricycles, using sand and water tables, easel painting, and chasing bubbles. Using Wee Sing Music to create circle games for pass the ball and Duck, Duck, Goose. Small motor: Coloring, cutting and gluing for short letter (E,e). The children will also create the own egg shell peddle art, using toothpicks and glue.
God’s Word: Galatians 5:22-23, “ The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self control. Against such things, there is no law.”
* Fresh strawberries one day this week will be given as a treat from meJ (symbolize fruit of spirit) Yum!
Social Studies: “Workers All Around.” Concepts of community workers in the present and in the past will be discussed. Please share with your child what your grandparents’ past work was like.
Science: How did the Statue of Liberty turn green? We will use pennies (for short e) and vinegar in the experiment. The children will note dirty green pennies becoming shinny again. We will talk about acid rain and oxygen (air) on copper (pennies).
Sense of Smell (for short e) we will also have fun with smelling red rose peddles. If you would like to bring some from home to add to our collection, the children will use them like confetti end of the week outside for fun.
Spanish: Conversational Spanish will be taught 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Monday with Ms. Rosa.
Music: Monday and Wednesday morning at 10:30a.m.

Holy Week: Jr. Kindergarten Class-
April 6th - 10th, 2009
Notes from Teacher: This week is Holy week. Each day will we have a morning chapel service. Since Friday is a half day, there is no school lunch that day. Please bring in 2 to 4 boiled eggs for decorating on Thursday morning, and at least 6 plastic filled eggs with your child’s name on them. We will have an Easter egg hunt and party Friday morning after chapel. Any homework given out Monday is not due until Friday, along with spring into reading sheet. Thank you all for reading the flip books with your child. It is a great way to get stickers in class.
Letters of the week: (E) we will write the beginning letter for words that start with E as a way to reinforce what they have learned and introduce long vowel (e) words (ee), by making their own flip books to be read in class and at home.
Books read: “Peep,” “Going to the Dentist,” “My Trip to the Hospital,” “The Easter Story”
Math: Counting amounts and recognizing patterns with Mrs. Maxwell.
Large motor: Outdoor play on tricycles, using sand and water tables, easel painting, and chasing bubbles. Using Wee Sing Music to create circle games for fun with a bunny and freeze dance. Small motor: Coloring, cutting and gluing for letters (E,e), and creating their long vowel (e) flip book. They will also create their own “Fleet of Little Peeps,” using finger paints.
God’s Word: “Jesus Dies and Rises.” Memory verse: “Christ died for our sins.” 1 Corinthians 15:3 *For school chapel tithing, we as a school are collecting money to help one of our own.
Social Studies: “Workers All Around.” Concepts of community workers, team work, the golden rule, the use of money and schooling will continue this week.
Spanish: Conversational Spanish will be taught 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Monday with Ms. Rosa.
Music: Monday and Wednesday morning at 10:30a.m.

EASTER EGG COLORING: Bring hard boiled eggs on Thursday to dye and decorate.
EASTER PARTY: Grades 3-6 will have a pizza and cookie decorating party on Friday, April 10, at 11:00 a.m. Please send $4.00 by Wednesday (or $6 per family for those with siblings in 3rd-6th grades) to help defray the cost of food, beverage, cups, and plates.
SPRING BREAK: No school April 13--17. Enjoy the time with your family!!

5/6 Memory: no memory
5/6 Spelling: test on Thursday

5/6 Book Report: Students will be dressing up "in character" the week of April 6--10 to share their book with the class.
