OPEN YOUR HEARTS FUNDRAISER: Tickets are on sale. Please get your tickets and plan on attending this fun night. A kids' party will also be held. Mark your calendars for the upcoming Pico Adobe field trip (grades 3-6) on Feb. 5. Drivers are desperately needed!!
Information about Pio Pico Adobe: Pio Pico was born at the San Gabriel Mission on May 5, 1801. He rose from poverty to become one of the richest men in California. He was the last Governor to serve in Alta California when it was part of Mexico. He played an important role in the political and economic life of this state throughout most of his life. He died in LA on Sept. 11, 1894. His home and gardens have been restored to their condition as it was 125 years ago when Pico lived there. Today they are owned by the State of CA. The property was placed under the Division of Beaches and Parks in 1927, making it one of the earliest state historic parks.

Notes from Teacher: Friday, February 6th is our school’s Silent Auction Dinner. Please buy your tickets now. Our room mom has put together a beach theme basket for the auction. Please help with the cost of the basket items. Also, before we know it, Valentine’s Day will be here. Both Jr. K. and Kindergarten will celebrate together.
Below are the list of names you child will need to create 12 Valentines. (K) Alexa, David, Lana, Laura, & Whitney (Jr.K) Charlee, Isabella, Julian, Kenneth, Mia, Sammy, & Stevie

Letter of the week: (Vv) We will identify word pictures that begin with letter (V): veterinarian, valentine, violin, vegetables, volcano, vulture.
For fun, we will have a vanilla vote, using vanilla wafers and vanilla ice cream for taste tests. If time permits, I will do the same with vegetables.
Books: we will read, “The Velveteen Rabbit,” “Frankie’s Valentine,” The Very Hungry Caterpillar” and “Veggie Tale” stories.
Math: Count the number of flower violets in their vase, and sorting and counting toy vehicles.
Large motor: Outdoor play, sand and water tables, tricycles, indoor exercise games with Smart Moves and some fun with circle games and pretend flying V formation of Geese. Small motor: Coloring and cutting for letter (Vv), making our Valentine boxes and cutting and gluing a vase of violets.
God’s Word: Story, “Jesus Blesses The Children.” Memory verse for the Kindergarten class is Matthew 19:14:Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me,... for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
Science: Guessing which toy vehicle will have the fastest velocity coming down a ramp. We will also note any difference in water level of a tall class of ice water, ¾ full of water and ¼ full of ice, once the ice has all melted. Does the water level rise or fall? Spanish: Conversational Spanish will be taught 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Monday morning with Ms. Rosa.
Music: The children have music on Monday and Wednesday mornings at 10:30 a.m.

Mrs. Maxwell's Jr. Kindergarten Class: 1-20-09
Notes from Teacher: Monday was no school to honor the life of Martin Luther King Jr., and this Tuesday is a historic day for our nation as well, welcoming in President Obama.
February 6th is our school’s spring fundraiser dinner with silent auction and fun. Please buy your tickets.
For outreach, the students and staff have chosen Avenues charities, promoting the well being of young mothers expecting. Each student will have an opportunity to fill a cute baby bottle with dollars and coins from home. Thanks for your support.
Letter of the week: (Ee) we will cut and paste word pictures that begin with letter E, trace and handwrite letter (Ee).
Books: we will read, “Martin Luther King Jr,” “Green Eggs and Ham,” “What Eddie Can Do,” “Half of an Elephant,” “Horton Hatches and Egg.” and “Sadie and the Snowman.”
Math: creating snowmen with construction paper, focusing on big, bigger and the biggest snowball.
For fun last week, we counted M&Ms on graph paper. We all guessed how many were in a jar. There were 162 and Kenneth came the closest. This was yummy fun.
Large motor: Outdoor play, sand and water tables, tricycles, indoor exercise games with Smart Moves and some fun trying to find the hidden eraser.
Small motor: Coloring and cutting for letter (Ee), and making our winter snowmen, ripping construction paper and gluing .
Centers: Puzzles, blocks, play dough, threading beads, dramatic play and easel painting.
God’s Word: Story, “The Catch of Fish.” Memory verse for the Kindergarten class are the words of Jesus, “From now on you will be fishers of men.”
Science: Using an uncooked egg, hot water, a clear bowl and food coloring to see if an egg shell is porous. Also using egg shells to illustrate how tough the shape of an egg can be.
Spanish: Conversational Spanish will be taught 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Monday morning with Ms. Rosa.

Notes from Teacher: Jr. Kindergarten will not be on the field trip Tuesday, my misunderstanding. However, the children are excited to know they can use the large play ground for their recess and tricycle riding while the upper graders are on the field trip.
Letter of the week: (Mm) we will cut and paste word pictures that begin with letter M, trace and handwrite letter (Mm).
Books: For letter (Mm), we will read, “The Mitten” book and flannel story, “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie,” “Madeline” books, and “Unique Monique.”
Math: matching mittens by number/dots and word number, sequencing the stories “If you Give a Mouse a Cookie” and “The Mitten.”
For fun, sorting, counting and patterning with M&Ms; and estimating how many each child thinks there is in the jar.
Large motor: Outdoor play, sand and water tables, tricycles, indoor exercise games with Smart Moves and music games, Mouse Trap and Musical Chairs.
Small motor: Coloring and cutting for letter (Mm), and making a musical shaker using balloons, starch, newspaper, beans and paint.
Centers: Puzzles, blocks, play dough, threading beads, dramatic play and easel painting.
God’s Word: Story, “Jesus Chooses His Disciples.” Memory verse for the Kindergarten class is “Come, follow Me, “Jesus said. Matthew 4:19.
Social Studies: Continuing unit on “Long Ago and Today.” The children are learning how roads, electricity, transportation and technology have made life much better. They have also learned how important events and people have shaped our nation; noting, the importance of a detailed calendar.
Spanish: Will be taught 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Monday morning with Ms. Rosa.
Music: Will be this Monday at 10:30 a.m. due to field trip.
