Notes from the Teacher: The Christmas program is this Tuesday, December 15th, followed by a chili cook off. The children will perform at 5:30 p.m.
· The boys wear their green school shirt and the girls their red school shirt.
· The boys can wear the blue pants and the girls, the blue skirt or blue pants.
· Each child will also wear a candy cane necklace they have made.
· For the last song, we ask parents to bring one flashlight from home to join us in singing Silent Night. Each family is asked to bring some Christmas cookies of their choice as dessert.
· Friday is a half day. Please bring a sack lunch if your child is staying after school is out.
· Happy Birthday to Russell and Kayli this week.

.Reviewing letters: I, T, P, F and U
In a group, the children will try to match letters to pictures that have the same beginning sounds.
Books read: “The 500 Hats,” “Dr. Seuss ABC,” “Goldilocks and the Three Bears,” and “Harold and the Purple Crayon.”
Math: Read “My First Counting Book” together and continue practicing drumming to the song “The Little Drummer Boy.”
Small motor: In large print, trace letters: I, T, P, F and U, and match up word pictures to each letter.
· With yarn and glue, create balloon art decoration.
· For fun create their own hat design to support the story, “500 Hats.”
· Thursday morning and Friday morning make, bake and decorate Christmas cookies with the Kindergarten class.
Large motor: Due to the rain this week we will play mostly inside and do circle games and move to the music of Smart Moves.
God’s Word: “Jesus is Born,,” Memory verse: “Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” Chapel service is this Friday morning with Pastor Harnack.
Science: Earth’s Land, Air and Water unit continued in the afternoon.
Spanish: Ms. Rosa will teach in our classroom Monday morning, 8:45 to 9:15 a.m.
Music: 10:30 to 1130 a.m. Monday and Tuesday for the Christmas program.

Curriculum
Our Pre-K programs explore these concepts, but are not required to master them before entering Kindergarten. Children learn these concepts at their own pace. Children are taught with hands on materials.
Math: numbers 1 – 10, counting objects to 10, sorting, patterns: AB, AABB, sizes, shapes, matching, same and different, more, less, same. Time: day and night.
Literacy: Exposure to alphabet, letter names and sounds, learn to recognize and spell first name, hold pencil, marker, crayon correctly, repeat simple nursery rhymes and finger plays, direction, left to right. Build new vocabulary, build listening skills, develop fine motor skills, play dough, scissors, writing utensils, legos, etc.
Science: explore science tools: magnets, prisms, magnifying glasses, etc. Natures, gardening, observe insect life, plant growth, and weather and plant life. Cooking activities, basic colors and explore color mixing. Explore the world with the five senses; learn about animals, their homes and the food they eat.
Creative Arts: Painting, drawing, sculpture, collage, etc. use different art materials: crayons, tempera paint, watercolor paint, colored pencils, markers, chalk and clay. Sing songs with movement and dances, use carves and other objects to practice rhythms, dramatize familiar stories, act out movements and sounds of animals.
Social Skills: Practice problem-solving skills in social situations, work in groups or with a partner, sharing, practice using manners: please, thank you, and excuse me.
Jesus Time Listen to Old and New Testament Bible stories, Recognize that God created families to love and take care of one another. Learn about God’s love, listen to stories of the life of Jesus, learn Jesus’ teachings to love God and love others

Mrs. Maxwell
I am Renee Maxwell, the Jr. Kindergarten and Kindergarten teacher. The children call me Mrs. Maxwell. I grew up in Mission Viejo, CA and graduated from California State University, Chico with a B.A. in Child Development. My passion has always been to teach the joy of learning through nurturance and letting each child know the love of Christ in their day.
This will be my eleventh year teaching. I have had the honor of teaching second grade for seven years at American Lutheran Elementary School in Burbank; and two years, prior, as their computer teacher for the 4th, 5th and 6th graders. However, I started at American Lutheran teaching with the Kindergarten classes and am delighted to be working with the young again here at First Lutheran in Burbank.
My husband and I met at Chico State and raised two children together, who now have gone off to college at the Naval Academy. After a lot of travel supporting them their first academic year, I longed to get back into teaching. I was an active parent, into marching band, water polo, swim, and many camp outs and hikes with the boy scouts. I love the outdoors, hikes and walks with my dog and visiting my family. I am a “doer.” I will be working hard to make each day fun in the classroom and on the yard for your children.
