Jr. Kindergarten Class
Notes from Teacher: We welcome Darvin to our class as our new studentJ This week we turn in March’s Spring Reading sheets for awards Friday. We also begin a flip book for long (a) words. Please read with your child the flip books for letters and vowels that come home, return them back to class and earn a sticker. Thanks for your support at home.
Letters of the week: (C&D) we will write the beginning letter for words that start with C & D as a way to reinforce what they have learned and introduce long vowel (a) words, by making their own flip books to be read in class and at home.
Books read: “When I get Bigger,” “Going to the Dentist,” “Biscuit Visits the Doctor,” “My Trip to the Hospital,” “If I Could Drive a Fire Truck,” “If I Could Drive a Bulldozer,” and “The Golden Rule.”
Math: Counting different amounts, identify what does not belong, and continue shape patterns.
Large motor: Outdoor play on tricycles, using sand and water tables, easel painting, and chasing bubbles. Using Wee Sing Music, enjoy circle games and freeze dance.
Small motor: Coloring, cutting and gluing for letters (C & D), and creating their long vowel (a) flip book. They will also create their own layered cake with construction paper. Later in the week, both Jr. K. and K. class will bake a layered cake and decorate it for fun, yum!
God’s Word: We will use art to compare the message of Jonah and the whale preached to Nineveh and that of Jesus’ obedience on the cross, raised on the third day, offering forgiveness to the whole world.
For school chapel tithing, we as a school are collecting money to help one of our own.
Social Studies: We begin a new unit on “Workers All Around.” Concepts of community workers, team work, the golden rule, the use of money and schooling will be discussed. Each child will be given the opportunity to tell others what they might like to do in their future.
Spanish: Conversational Spanish will be taught 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Monday with Ms. Rosa.
Music: Monday and Wednesday morning at 10:30a.m.

Mrs. Maxwell
I am Renee Maxwell, the Jr. Kindergarten and Kindergarten teacher. The children call me Mrs. Maxwell. I grew up in Mission Viejo, CA and graduated from California State University, Chico with a B.A. in Child Development. My passion has always been to teach the joy of learning through nurturance and letting each child know the love of Christ in their day.
This will be my eleventh year teaching. I have had the honor of teaching second grade for seven years at American Lutheran Elementary School in Burbank; and two years, prior, as their computer teacher for the 4th, 5th and 6th graders. However, I started at American Lutheran teaching with the Kindergarten classes and am delighted to be working with the young again here at First Lutheran in Burbank.
My husband and I met at Chico State and raised two children together, who now have gone off to college at the Naval Academy. After a lot of travel supporting them their first academic year, I longed to get back into teaching. I was an active parent, into marching band, water polo, swim, and many camp outs and hikes with the boy scouts. I love the outdoors, hikes and walks with my dog and visiting my family. I am a “doer.” I will be working hard to make each day fun in the classroom and on the yard for your children.
God Bless,
Mrs. Maxwell
